Writing a book takes a lot of time and effort. Most of the work is slow and steady, but at some point during each book, it gets pretty intense. For a week, or two, or even longer, I close myself off from my friends and family, and let the book take over my life. I get lost in the details—polishing the writing, choosing the photographs, dealing with comments and questions from editors.

Early on, I figured out that if I was going to spend that much energy on something, I’d better enjoy it. So I only write about things that matter to me. I love sports. I loved to play them when I was a kid, and I love to watch them today. I also love history, particularly women’s history. I majored in it in college and I never get tired of digging through books and papers in libraries or searching through old photographs to find just the right one.

So far, all of my books have been about sports, or women’s history, or both. You can learn more about each book by clicking on its cover.
