And Now for Something Completely Different

February 14,2019

October 1, 2019, is the publication date for my newest book, The Book Rescuer: How a Mensch from Massachusetts Saved Yiddish Literature for Generations to Come (Paula Wiseman Books/Simon & Schuster), illustrated by Stacy Innerst. It's the true story of Aaron Lansky, who started collecting Yiddish books when he realized that they were being discarded as the number of Yiddish speakers in the world was shrinking. He ended up saving more than a million books and starting an organization that has helped bring about renewed interest in the language and its literature.

Writing this book enabled me to get in touch with my roots. Although most of my work has focused on sports or women's history, I studied American Jewish history in college and Aaron's journey really struck a chord with me. I wrote the book with input from Aaron and the folks at his Yiddish Book Center and can't wait for the world to read it.
